28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. [Romans 8:28-30]

my friend alicia, wrote that on a card and slipped it under my door my senior year in college. I found it inspiring then as I do now. I love that about scripture, year after year something new is illuminated to you. then, i was feeling insecure about performing well in my SGA position. all these questions came, will i be able to do. i’m not qualified. so many people do this and have this and that. and blah blah blah. i can still see it now. on lime green paper. black ink. perfect penmenship. she encouraged me to be all God had created me to be. a stunning example of his vision, his integrity, his excellence on display. all the tools..he’d already given to me. before my name was ever spoken. before my parents picked out a name. he had. this was my time to take those tools and use them. maybe not perfectly all the time. but to use them all the same and none the less.  and now i’m reading it again. this time written upon nail scarred hands. again he’s whispering over me. like a master tailor. the cloth his resurrection life. he’s created and creating .

the time has come to raise your banner. again.
