focus on the goal

Love this blog post by christine caine:

One factor that is critical in helping a runner to maintain focus right to the end of their race is keeping the end in sight. Experienced marathon runners are focused solely on crossing the finishing line. Their objective is nothing less than completion.

The apostle Paul exemplified this attitude of running to finish his race. In Philippians 3:14 he says, “I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.” Paul was focused on one thing: crossing the finish line. Later, he was able to say, as he neared the end of his life, “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7) or as The Message puts it: “This is the only race worth running. I’ve run hard right to the finish, believed all the way.”

If we keep our attention focused on the finish line, we will not get sidetracked by anything else. I have seen too many people get distracted by relationships, material possessions, achieving status, furthering their career, earning more money, offenses, or sin; and these things have caused them to lose sight of their goal – the finish line.

If you are feeling depleted, exhausted, or like you are about to give up on the race of life, it may be because you have lost sight of the finish line. I have found that the only times I have ever wanted to give up have been when I have become so overwhelmed with my circumstances that I have lost sight of the big picture. In these situations we must choose to re-focus our attention on the finish line.

A long-distance runner focuses on the goal even though they may still be in the first mile. Keep your eyes on the prize like Paul and don’t allow other things to distract you. The goal is to finish our course.

Happy Friday!

look of the day

I love these two looks. i’m very drawn to the modern romance of each and yet the understated glamour. I’m partial to Emily Blunt I must say but she looks amazing in this burnt orange gown and Jessica Chastain just looks so fresh and beautiful. Her butter yellow lace dress is perfectly offset by her nude pointy toe pumps and her red hair draped to one side.
